Fine motor skills
We are working really hard in Senior infants and 1st class to strengthen the muscles in our fingers and hands. This will help us to do daily activities such as writing, buttoning, zipping, cutting, colouring, using LEGO etc.
Aistear
Every week the boys participate in Aistear which is like play time. There are 3 elements to our Aistear time- Plan, play and review. Before the boys begin to play they plan in their groups for example what they are going to make and who they are going to play with. Then the boys play for around 25 mins and then we have our review which is usually a share session. During our review, the boys explain to the rest of the class what they created and how they created it.

Handwriting
The boys are really enjoying working on their handwriting- especially because we have new mini-whiteboards and markers for every boy in the class!! We trace our letters in the sky, in the palm of our hands, on the table and in sand. Then we practice on our whiteboards before we move onto writing in our copies. If the boys work hard they even get 5 minutes of free-writing and drawing on the whiteboards. So far the boys have made great progress!
1st Class Math
This week, 1st class are working really hard on the number 11 and thinking of all the different ways we can make 11. The boys were each given 11 counters and their butterfly template to explore the various ways we can make 11 for example 5+6=11 or 7+4=11
