As you all know, every year Mary Queen of Angels 2 hosts an Active Schools Week. This includes lots of fun activities to get us moving more and to be a little bit healthier in our day-to-day lives. Unfortunately this year, our Active Schools Week will be a little bit different.
The Active School team would like to invite you to participate in some fun activities you will find here on the website. Each day a new challenge will be posted. Your child might also be taking part in some active challenges organised by their class teacher. We would like to encourage you to send on photos or videos of how you are staying active at home.
We have lots of wonderful prizes to give out so don’t forget to send on your photos and video clips.
Please send on your photos and/or videos to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com
Challenge 1: 3rd- 6th class
The first challenge this week is a 'Keepie-uppie' challenge. Try to do as many 'Keepie Uppies' as you can!
Ms O'Brien's brother Tim got involved too all the way from New York! I wonder could anyone beat his record?! Take a look at his video below! Ask an adult at home to send your video to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com to be entered into the competition to win prizes.
Challenge 1: Junior infants- 2nd Class
The first challenge this week for the Junior side of the school is a 'Penalty Shoot-out'. In your garden or a park near your house have a penalty shoot-out with someone in your family.
If you would prefer not to do a penalty shoot-out then you can send me a picture or a short video of your best victory dance! Ask an adult at home to send your picture or video to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com to be entered into the competition to win a prize.
Challenge 2: All classes
Tuesday's challenge is called 'Isolation Orienteering'. Walk, run or jog around your local area with an adult or your family and take a picture of yourself at the places listed below. We hope you enjoy this challenge!!
When you have finished and got 10 pictures email them to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com for your chance to win a prize!
Challenge 3: All classes
Wednesday's challenge is to create an 'Obstacle course' indoors or outdoors. You don't need any special equipment for this- use what you have at home. Hop over your jumper, crawl under a chair, dribble a ball, run around your kitchen table. Make your obstacle as simple or as complicated as you want. Once you've made your obstacle course- give it a go!!
Younger boys in the school might like to as an adult at home to help them. Send a picture of your obstacle course or a video of you using it to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com to be entered into the competition.
I can't wait to see what you've come up with!
Challenge 4: All classes
Thursday's challenge is all about fueling your body with some healthy snacks. Try out one of the healthy recipes below or maybe you have your own healthy recipe you would like to make.
There is no need to go out and buy ingredients- you could keep it simple and make a fruit salad or slice apples with peanut butter.
Send a picture of what you create to msobrienmqa2@gmail.com
Challenge 5: All Classes
First of all I would like to say a massive well-done to all the boys and their families for all the activities you completed this week. It was absolutely brilliant to see lots of families getting involved and I was delighted to see how much fun you were having.
Special thank you to all the parents and adults at home that helped out and for sending in the pictures and videos.
Friday's challenge is an at-home workout. We are very lucky to have a personal trainer working on our staff. Natasha works in 'The Nest' as an SNA and I am sure you boys have bumped into her around the school. Natasha put together two workouts- one for the junior classes and one for the senior classes. Thanks again Natasha!
