The boys enjoy taking a break from the classroom to go to youth club every Thursday. It's a time to have fun and enjoy playing with peers using various games and consoles and having a laugh.

A visit from past pupil Sergeant Major Noel O'Callaghan
Thank you to Sergeant Major Noel O'Callaghan who called into visit us and talk to us this week (27/09/2017). Sergeant Major Noel O'Callaghan was a past pupil of Mary Queen of Angels 2, leaving the school in 1971. Noel spoke to our 5th and 6th classes about his life and times in the school and the Defence Forces. He showed the us slides of his eight missions overseas his first being as a Corporal in 1978 to the Lebanon. Sergeant Major is due to retire on the 25th of December 2017 and on behalf of all staff and students of MQA2 we would like to wish him the very best in his retirement.
Birds of a Feather Flock Together
The boys in 6th class completed a collaborative art piece, experimenting with warm and cool colours. This collaborative piece symbolises the unity of our classroom and that we're always working together and working as a team.
Beat The Street
Beat The Street is an initiative developed by the Dublin City Council to encourage school children and communities to take part in physical activity. The boys have been enjoying walking around Ballyfermot as a class on a weekly basis and Ciara, a member of the Beat The Street team, came in to us to tell us more about the initiative and the importance of physical activity. We then went on a short walk to show Ciara one of our many routes. Thanks Ciara for coming into us and joining us on our walk.
Happy Halloween
On the day of the Halloween break, we had a fancy dress day in aid of Crumlins children's hospital where the boys brought in €2 to support children in need. The boys went all out with their costumes and so too did the teacher!! Well done to everyone who took part in dressing up and we hope you all have a lovely, safe, Halloween break
1st Place Science Fanatics 🏆
This year, students from 6th class from MQA2 took part in the D10 Science Fair for the first time. Six boys made up the science team and came up with the question 'How Can Music Help to Overcome a Stutter?' They conducted research in this area, researched the history and explanations of stuttering and they looked up celebrities who have had or remain to have stutters in their speech. The boys recorded students reading without music and then with music and compared the results. They found that students read more clearly and with less stutters when students listened to music while reading. This is due to both sides of the brain working at the same time rather than having just the left side of the brain working when reading.
The boys were well prepared for the occasion and took an active interest in the project. They represented the school so well and helped visitors, teachers and judges to realise the impact music can have on speech. The boys came first with their project and we are all so proud of the work they have done!! Well done boys, it is such a fantastic achievement!! 🏆🏅

Christmas in Room 6
6th class boys made Reindeer Cookies and had lots of fun decorating them. Of course the best part was getting to eat them! 🍪
The boys have been busy rehearsing for their Christmas Carol Service and have put a lot of work and effort into their singing and preparation for the day. Thanks to all the parents for coming along to see the boys perform. Well done to all you took part 🎤🎼 We finished 2017 in Room 6 with some Christmas games and it wasn't only the boys in 6th class who enjoyed it, Master O'Shea had a few turns too, putting his name towards the top of the scoreboards

Grandparents Day
This year, we celebrated Grandparents Day on the 31st of January. The boys interviewed their grandparents or someone special in their lives to find out more about them, what life was like when they were younger and their school days in particular. The boys wrote poems and special memories also which were displayed on the day. Thanks to all the grandparents who were able to come in on the day. We were delighted to spend some quality time with you all 😁
Librarians In The Making!
Some of the 6th class boys were very busy reorganising our school library whilst some of their classmates sat entrance exams. The boys did a fantastic job and have been highly praised for what they have done with our library.
Being Scientists for the Day with Maynooth University
Lecturers and students from the National University of Ireland Maynooth came into 6th class to teach them about DNA. They learned about the structure of DNA and how it makes each one of us unique. The boys then grabbed some lab coats so that they could get hands on and conduct some experiments. Using specific utensils and bananas(.....yes... BANANAS!!) the boys learned how to extract DNA from the bananas and study it. Afterwards, they recreated the structure of DNA using a model. A great day was had by all and we look forward to making a trip to Maynooth in a few weeks time to conduct more experiments.
Leave No Trace
Ciara from Leave No Trace came in to take to the boys about saving our environment. Leave No Trace is an organisation which aims to promote creating and maintaining a clean, litter-free, environmental friendly Ireland. Ciara spoke to us about litter and how long it takes for different items to break down. We took a closer look at the local environment and went on a green friendly trail to discover things using our senses. It was a very interesting visit and it opened our eyes to why we need to put things into practice.
Cross Country 2018
We entered a cross country team this year after having been running every morning for 15 minutes. 6 boys made a team and they did the school very proud. The boys ran as a team and finished in 2nd place, with one of our students, Clayton, being the 3rd person finished in their category. Well done to Adam, Callum, Clayton, Conor, Hayden and Luke.
