Green Schools Flag
Bugs, Bees and Native Trees
Bugs, Bees and Native Trees is an organisation whose mission is to support young people to address issues of the environment, biodiversity and climate change through tree planting and environmental community initiatives. MQA2 were lucky to work with this group and planted some native trees on the school grounds. Boys from 4th/5th class, who are part of the Green Schools Committee, planted the trees with help from Ms. O'Hare, Mr. Brennan, Mr. O'Shea, Eoghan and Dan. The Green Schools Committee will be responsible for looking after these trees and caring for the area in which they were planted.
Water!
After successfully getting our first Green Schools flag for litter and waste, we have begun working on our next flag!
The theme for this flag is WATER!
We will be working on conserving water, keeping the water in our local area clean, and not wasting it!

We did it! We have been awarded our Water Flag! Well done to everyone involved. On to the next one!!
On Friday, three boys from the Green Schools committee, Miss Ray and Lydia went to Pearse Street Library to take part in a water workshop. Here, we got lots of great ideas for how to go about getting our next green flag. We were also given some great posters!
We learned all about Hippo Bags for toilet cisterns and how they can reduce the amount of water used in each flush by 2 litres. We also learned about what can and what can't be flushed down toilets.
We designed and presented our 'ideal water school' in which zero water would be wasted. We saw a presentation from a school who already got their flag. A man from Water Ireland also spoke to us.
We had a great day and definitely learned lots!

We are working hard to reduce our landfill waste by recycling, composting and reusing materials for art activities. The most important thing is raising awareness about what goes in each bin and helping everyone to keep our environment clean.
WE DID IT!!! We've been awarded our first Green School Flag for Litter and Waste. We are very proud after all of the hard work we put in to reducing our school waste! :) Come celebrate with us on the 25th of May for our Green Flag Ceremony.
Update on our progress Feb 2018: We are very proud to announce that we have reduced our landfill waste by a further 24%!!! :)
